Registration

How Much Does Each Session Cost?

Harlem Camp costs $400 per two-week session and ONLY $250 for Session Four.

Legacy Lions Basketball programming is $35 additional per session and runs from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Soccer Programming is $35 additional per session and runs from 1:00-4:30 pm.

You can calculate the total cost of the Camp by adding the fee per session based on the number of sessions you need your child to attend.

Where is the Harlem Camp Site Located?

Legacy Harlem Site is located at 127 West 127th Street between Lenox Ave and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. The camp entrance is on 128th between Lenox and 7th Ave. Dismissal doors are on 128th Street and Lenox.

Program

What is the age range of the campers?

  • General Camp: be 5-10 years old.

  • PreK- Group: At least four years old by June 17th, 2024.

  • (if your child is in Prek during the school year your child will be placed in the PreK Group)

How Long Is A Typical Camp Day?

Standard arrival is at 9 am, and the day runs until dismissal at 5:45 pm.

Do you offer a Morning Extended Day Start?
Charter Early Morning begins on June 18th with entry from 8am to 8:15 am at the Main Camp Site

The cost for this service is $40 per session.

Is Transportation Provided?
Legacy does not provide pickup or drop-off transportation services. The parent or guardian must bring/pick up the camper from/to the program building.

What is your Staff to Camper Ratio?
Our ratio policies follow those the NYC Department of Health set: 1 counselor for every ten children.

What is the total number of campers in the Pre-K Group?
The PreK group has 15 children and two primary staff responsible for enrichment, supervision, and learning! This group also has an additional two staff members for support.

How Many T-Shirts Do The Campers Receive?
Each child will receive two purple shirts for use on days camp is on. To order additional shirts please click here.

Is Lunch Provided For The Campers?
Lunch is available starting June 28th, 2024. We offer lunch for the campers through the city of New York food services on NON TRIP DAYS. Parents must supply their children with a bag lunch on Trip Days. If your child is a picky eater, you may give lunch to your child daily. Lunch is not provided during the Charter Session until June 27th, 2024.

What Are The Activities The Children Participate In?
Participants may go on at least three trips per session, in-house visits from various artists and cultural organizations, and hands-on workshops. The Camp will also focus on science, arts, and general activities.

Will The Sports Campers Go On Trips?
Effective Summer 2024, Lions Basketball & Soccer Campers will go on trips with the general camp and or as a team.

Where Does The Soccer Program Practice?
Soccer players practice in our gym at our camp building.

Where Does The Lions Basketball Program Practice?

How Do Campers Travel On Trips?
Legacy campers always travel by walking or train, and by bus. All staff is always available and reachable during trips, and trips are in the City of New York.

Are There Fees Associated With Trips?
Yes, Trip Fees are usually $10-30 max and only need to be paid for select trips.

Where Do I Pick Up My Child For Summer Camp Dismissal?
Dismissal is at the back of our summer camp site-building. Parents will pick up on 128th and Lenox from the dismissal doors. All adults must show ID to pick up their child, and parents must list all who will be authorized on the ProCare app.

* Dismissal begins at 5:15 pm-5:45 pm every day.

What if I need to pick up my child early from Camp?
Since we are an active camp and may be out on activities or a trip, you MUST coordinate your specified pickup time with the camp director by contacting us using the ProCare App by noon the day of. Early pickup times are 2:30 pm and or 4:30 pm.

Will I be charged if I Pick Up My Child Late?

Campers must be picked up by 5:45 pm at the latest. Late pick-up coverage fees are charged from 5:45 up until the guardian’s arrival and sign-out. The coverage fee is $3.99 per minute starting at 5:45. The guardian will be invoiced and payment is required BEFORE the child is accepted the following day.

Payment

Can I Leave A Deposit To Secure A Spot For My Child?
Yes, when registering, a deposit is required to secure a spot. The Deposit is $200, which is applied to the sessions you book your child to attend. Deposits are spread in $50 increments for each session you select on your application if greater than four sessions. There are no refunds for deposits for any reason. See below for deposit deadline.

I Need to Switch a Session, or I Am Planning To Go On Vacation, So My Child May Miss A Week. Is That An Issue?

We will set up a camp schedule that will accommodate your vacation during registration. So long as your child is attending in two-week segments it can be accommodated. This accommodation should be mentioned during your registration so that we know you have plans. Session-switching is allowed until May 20th, regardless of your child's enrollment date. If your child is registered after this date, changes will not be permitted unless approved by the Office of Membership.

When Is The Deadline For Payment For The First Session My Child Will Attend?

  • The first payment for campers starting the Charter Session ( June 17th) must be made before May 20th, 2024.

  • First payment for campers starting on or after (July 1st) must be made by June 3rd, 2024.

  • Any registration accepted for the Charter Session after June 17th will not be allowed to leave a deposit and will require full payment of the first session.

  • Any registration accepted for Sessions 1-4 after June 17th will not be allowed to leave a deposit and will require full payment of the first session.

My Child Is Already Registered; How Do I Pay Down My Balance Before Camp Begins?
Your bill will be visible on your ProCare Account. You can always make payments directly on ProCare leading up to Camp. Please note that your payment using credit or debit will have a processing fee.

What is Pay as You Go and How Do I Pay Once My Child is Actively Attending Camp?
You can pay using Procare using Credit, Debit, or Zelle on the Thursday before the start of each new session.

Will there be a Camp Orientation?

  • Legacy Harlem Summer Camp site orientation has all occurred for 2024. Attendance is mandatory for your child to attend Camp. Camp shirts, important documents, and additional information will be provided at the orientation. Parents who have registered will be notified on ProCare with link information.

What is the ProCare App?
ProCare is an app that ALL parents are required to download to their phones. This app allows us to send updates regarding Camp, trip information, and alerts, enabling parents to communicate with staff directly make payments pull tax documents after camp. ProCare improves communication with you and our program while your child is in Camp.

I Already Have The Procare App. Is There Something I Should Do To Connect?

If your child attended our after-school programs and you have the Procare app already your profile will become active once notified. You would have to switch your school to “Legacy Summer Camp” to see information about summer camp. We suggest doing this periodically to review updates and finally switch fully in mid-June. If your child participated in a summer camp program and no other program, you can leave your app as is.

Can I Get a Refund if I Need to Cancel? 
Legacy does not allow refunds under any case and for any reason.

Medical Information

Does My Child Need a Physical?
Your child must have a valid physical stamp from the doctor before starting Camp. Please visit our registration page for our MEDICAL FORM or submit your own.

What Is Legacy Policy on Medications?
If your child has an asthma pump, they can use it during Camp, and campers should be able to administer medications themselves. During registration, the camp director will discuss any medication concerns with you on a case-by-case basis.

What Is Legacy Policy on Individual Education Plans ( IEP)?
We understand that every child is different and all families have the same common interest, for their child to have an enjoyable, safe summer. We require that if your child has an IEP, it be uploaded so our membership office and our summer staff understand how to serve your child best. IEPs allow us to see how your child may communicate with peers or need additional guidance and support during the summer.

What Is Legacy Policy on Behavior Expectations and Behavior Policy?
We have adopted the exact behavior expectations that all NYC students must follow the entire school year. Legacy follows the New York City Behavioral Expectations Code. To review the policy, click here.

How does the staff handle Food Allergies?
Staff is trained in dealing with all allergies and special food restrictions. Should your child have an allergy or restrictions, Please list their allergies on ProCare and provide information on the medical form. Activities, Parties, and celebrations will be tailored to include your child’s partiIf your child has an asthma pump; they can use it during Camp. Campers should be able to administer medications themselves. During orientation, the camp director will discuss any medication concerns with you on a case-by-case basis.

Is Legacy a Peanut Free & Tree Nut Free Program?
All Legacy programs are Peanut & Nut Free. We ensure that peanut and tree nut products are not served to our members. Additionally, parents should ensure that when packing snacks for their children, they should not contain nut products. Staff is trained to deal with children who have allergies and how to administer care for allergic reactions. Celebrations and parties during Camp will be adjusted to serve foods that observe allergy concerns.

Is The Staff Certified in CPR & First Aid?
Legacy follows the NYC Department of Health code by ensuring that every staff member undergoes extensive readiness training before Camp begins. Staff receives CPR and First Aid training through the American Heart Association. Furthermore, the Executive Staff and Health Director additionally hold advanced certifications in CPR for adults & infants, Responding to Emergencies, & Advanced First Aid by the American Heart Association. Our Camp is always equipped with first aid kits and AED, and staff carries a First Aid Kit Emergency Strap Bag on trips.

Is Legacy Summer Camp Licensed?
Yes, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene License licenses Legacy Harlem Summer Camp. This camp is a subsidiary of Legacy Youth Organization serving thousands of NYC students since 2002.
